|Synopsis||The Phoenix Descending Theatre Company is in terminal meltdown, as productions are rehearsed back to back with extra rehearsals in between. Artistic Director, Peter Quince, wields an iron fist as his players are subjected to artistic and personal abuse as he criticises and ridicules their private lives. To make matters worse, he's a Police Superintendent.
As the cast members assemble on stage for a run through of "A Laugh a Minute," a politically incorrect comedy, are things really what they seem to be. Why don't the actors walk out? Why don't they rebel? Something is just not right. As the run through of "A Laugh a Minute" appears to be going well, it suddenly comes to an abrupt halt and all is revealed. This is a quirky comedy drama with an unexpected ending|

|Production||"Last Performing Rites" is a play within a play within a play. Things are not what they seem to be and the audience should rack their brains to find out what is behind it all. The end tells it. . Accents and contrasting acting styles should be exploited to the full by the director as all the cast, have in reality , three characters to play. "The "A Laugh a Minute" piece should be played straight down the line and deadpan.
Setting the play is easy, as the action takes place on stage during the run through of "A Laugh a Minute.
The denouement is important, as what has gone before should seem a little surrealistic and quirky, as the reason behind, the reason behind "The Phoenix Descending Theatre Company" is revealed.|
