|The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar|
|Author||NUTTALL, Peter - Other Plays by this Author - Contact Author|
|Synopsis||Published in 1845, this short story was taken as a factual account and was only later revealed as a hoax by Poe. After being diagnosed with Tuberculosis, Ernest Valdemar seeks his physician friend who is fascinated by magnetism (later developed into what we now know as hypnosis). The Physician has always wondered what would happen if someone was mesmerised at the point of death.
Valdemar volunteers and it seems as the play progresses that the physician is able to speak to Valdemar in the afterlife.
